Position Title:        Abortion Navigation Advocate

Reports To:            Program Manager

Classification:       Part-time, Non-Exempt, 0.50 FTE, up to 30 hrs per week

Compensation:     $20.00 – $23.00 per hour, DOE.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Abortion Navigator Advocate will provide compassionate, medically accurate resources to help individuals navigate reproductive health decisions. With at least three years of experience in community settings (e.g., clinics, grocery stores, schools, or places of worship), the advocate will guide individuals in exploring their abortion options, addressing concerns, and connecting them with necessary resources. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of reproductive health services, ability to share that information in an unbiased, empowering way, and the ability to use social media effectively to engage the community and share accurate information. The advocate will support individuals in accessing healthcare, financial assistance, transportation, and emotional support, ensuring they feel empowered and informed in their decision-making process. Confidentiality, cultural competency, and empathy are essential for success in this position, as is the ability to work with diverse populations and maintain a strong, supportive presence both online and in-person.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

*Collaborate with the Community Health Response Manager to enhance abortion navigation program readiness, integrate abortion access services, and implement abortion funding and support services using NWAAF’s dashboard.
*Participate in regular coordination during the implementation phase, while maintaining punctuality and a cooperative team spirit.
*Assist with travel arrangements, perform intakes and determine funding needs for the caller’s abortion, provide funding assistance for medical or procedure abortion for persons in the first trimester, assist with other needs for individuals seeking abortion care, and promote equitable reproductive health for all
*Stay informed of the evolving legal context for abortion services and its implications on the pilot program
*Provide wraparound support, including referrals to post-abortion doulas and mental health support, and other social services
*The ideal candidate will be bilingual, adaptable, and self-directed, with bicultural familiarity and strong skills in resource navigation.
*Utilize Latino Network social media platforms to share accurate, compassionate, and timely information about abortion access and reproductive health, engaging with the community to raise awareness and provide support.

Requirements
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

*Education in social work, public health or community health OR 3 years of equivalent work experience.
*Certification as a Community Health Worker  preferred
*Minimum of three years of experience in community outreach services providing health information, advocacy, social support and assistance in using the health care system to groups and families; AND demonstrated experience working with the Latinx community within the medical system.
*Working knowledge of the array of abortion and reproductive health services available in Oregon and ability to share those resources in an unbiased, judgement free manner
*Bilingual in English and Spanish with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Additionally, Indigenous languages from Latin America are a plus.
*Understanding of medical terminology and ability to convey the concepts to clients in Spanish.
*Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and follow HIPAA policies and procedures.
*Bicultural understanding/familiarity required: knowledge of Latinx culturally based world view, adaptive reasoning, and problem-solving practices of Latinx individuals, families, and community living in urban neighborhoods impacted by crime, poverty, and racial inequity.
*Strong communication skills, including active listening, ability to demonstrate cultural humility and respect for people of diverse racial, social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
*Reliable, patient, and able to cope with high stress situations.
*Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
*Possess excellent attention to detail, good organizational skills, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
*Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google suite, and data entry skills.
*Excellent phone and computer skills are required.
*Reliable transportation, valid driver license, and automobile liability insurance required; eligibility to be an insured driver under Latino Network’s Commercial Auto Liability preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Latino Network is a fast-paced, highly engaged work environment with satellite operations with positions performing work both onsite and remotely.
